Uses
- Electrostatic experiments: Ebonite rods are often rubbed with fur or wool to demonstrate the generation of negative charge. This is a key tool in physics experiments to study static electricity.
- Inducing charge: By charging an ebonite rod and bringing it near objects, it can induce a charge or repel/attract other charged objects. This helps in teaching principles of charge interactions.
- Van de Graaff generator experiments: Ebonite rods may be used to manipulate or observe the effects of charge in electrostatic generators.
- Coulomb’s law demonstrations: Ebonite rods are used to illustrate Coulomb’s law by showing the forces between charged bodies.
