Sulphuric acid (H2SO4 or H2O4S)

Sulphuric acid is the British spelling and Sulfuric acid is the American spelling of the mineral acid. The molecular formula for the compound is H2SO4. It is also known as dihydrogen sulphate, oil of vitriol, mattling acid, battery acid, dipping acid, acide sulfurique, or electrolyte acid just to mention a few. It appears as a colourless to dark brown oily liquid, depending on purity, which is odourless and soluble in water.
